Except for special cases, where we already have an idea for a specific shell/head combination, our instruments are supplied with standard heads that are neither mute nor anything else (ie. coated Ambassador head). This is done to allow the drummer to appreciate the shell answering range in the most complete way possible: it is not up to us to either give or impose the right setting for one's own style; instead, setting is part of the artistic sensitivity of each single musician.
Our shells play a lot and are full of harmonics: generally speaking, this means that over tones are clearly distinguishable.
Some drummers appreciate and search for this characteristic. They hold that the output from this type of snaredrum in the group's context is particularly expressive; other drummers prefer a sound that is dry and without over tones.
We invite the latter group to test our instruments with no bias, knowing that the richness of harmonics is a positive aspect of each instrument's "character".
Removing harmonics and over tones is easily done and always possible: it is sufficient to use another type of head or a different tune up, but the instrument will still have its own individual "agressiveness". It is impossible, instead, to give this determination and this richness of harmonics to shells that cannot produce harmonics...
